Olena Kostenko was born on November 30, 1966 in Poltava.

Education

In 1984 she entered Poltava Agricultural Institute and graduated in 1989 gaining the qualification of an agricultural mechanical engineer.

Postgraduate studies

In 1996 Olena Kostenko embarked on postgraduate studies in the specialty “Labour Protection”. In 2002 she defended her thesis on the topic “Improvement of methods and tools for the complex analysis, prognosis and prevention of industrial injuries in agricultural production” at Kyiv National Research Institute of Labour Protection.

Doctoral studies

In 2015 Olena Kostenko defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic “Synthesis of optimal plans of the experiments in conditions of limited material and financial resources” at the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”.

Academic titles

In 2005 Olena Kostenko was conferred the academic title of Associate Professor.

In 2019 she received the academic title of Professor.

Work experience

Olena Kostenko started her career as an agricultural machinery engineer at the collective farm “Rosiia” in Lokhvytsia district, Poltava region. Then she worked as a safety engineer and the head of the engineering and technical service at the same collective farm. In 1993 she returned to the city of Poltava for permanent residency and was offered the position of a teacher of the Department of Health and Safety at Poltava Agricultural Institute. From 2003 to 2008 Olena Kostenko worked as the executive secretary of the admission committee. At the end of 2008 she was promoted to the position of the Vice-Rector for Educational, Pedagogical and Innovative Work. In 2010 Olena Kostenko became the Vice-Rector for Educational Research Affairs.

Professional internship

In 2006 Olena Kostenko did a professional internship in Poland and received a certificate of completion of the training course within the framework of the project “New tasks for agricultural advisory services in Poland and Ukraine”;

2008 – internship in France; in 2009 and 2010 – in Poland; in 2012 – in China; in 2016 – in Poland.

Advanced professional training

National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Educational and Scientific Institute of Postgraduate Education from May 22 to May 23, 2014 in the disciplines of life protection and from October 8, 2016 to October 21, 2016 in the disciplines of technology of the industry.

Achievements

As a scientist, Olena Kostenko developed the methodology for experiment planning that is costs and time optimal in technical systems. Also she is the author of computer programs of searching optimal plans of an experiment. They are important tools for engineers’ research (certified by patents and certificates). As the head of the Scientific and Methodological Council of Poltava State Agrarian Academy, Olena Kostenko initiated the creation of new rules, procedures, recommendation documents on the internal system of quality assurance of education and implementation of the norms of academic integrity related to the current European practice. Besides she promoted the creation of information and educational environment of the Academy, etc.

During the period of working as a Vice-Rector, Olena Kostenko has contributed to the improvement of training of specialists both for the agro-industrial complex and for other branches of the national economy of Ukraine. She takes measures for further reforming of higher education and educational process in accordance with modern conditions, ensures personal development and scientific self-realization of youth, formation of the capability to study throughout their life. Olena Kostenko has a high level of professional training, she is armed with innovative educational forms, methods, psychological and pedagogical techniques, knowledge of modern information technologies. Olena Kostenko is engaged in planning, organizing and controlling of the educational process. She ensures its improvement, contributes to professional, methodological training of the teaching staff, coordinates the operation of the Academy’s subdivisions in terms of the organization of educational activities.

Olena Kostenko constantly works on upgrading her qualification: she attends scientific, educational and methodological seminars, regularly did a professional internship and had advanced professional training in Ukrainian higher educational institutions, as well as in foreign organizations and educational institutions:

in 2006 – internship in Poland in the training course within the framework of the project “New tasks for agricultural advisory services in Poland and Ukraine”;

in 2008 – internship in France;

in 2009 and 2010 – in Poland;

in 2012 – in China;

in 2016 – scientific-academic internship at Czestochowa University of Technology (Poland).

Olena Kostenko is engaged in research and innovative work on the equipment of agro-industrial production, in particular she makes investigations on the optimal planning of the experiment in technical systems and the implementation of labour safety systems. Olena Kostenko is the author and co-author of 219 scientific and methodological works, namely: 2 textbooks, 1 manual, 5 monographs, 24 patents, 16 certificates of registration of copyright in computer programs, 76 scientific papers published in national and international peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The successful, fruitful activity of the Vice-Rector contributes to the high image of the Academy, helps to take leading places in the ranking of higher education institutions of Ukraine.

Olena Kostenko was awarded with the Honorary Certificate of the Presidium of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (2015); the Certificates of Poltava Regional State Administration (2006, 2016); the Certificate of the Department of Education and Science of Poltava Regional State Administration (2016); the Certificate of the Main Directorate of Agriculture and Food of Poltava Regional State Administration (2004); the Certificate of Poltava Regional Organization of Trade Unions of APK Workers (2002, 2016); the Honorary Certificate of the Executive Committee of Poltava City Council (2009, 2014).

Pedagogical, scientific, social and administrative activities of Olena Kostenko are aimed at improving the training of highly qualified specialists for both agrarian and other sectors of the national economy of Ukraine, a close combination of the educational process with production, as well as the formation of a high sense of patriotism, national consciousness, a civil duty in students, their high professional competence in fulfilling the tasks of guaranteeing the food security of our country.

Olena M. Kostenko is actively engaged in scientific work: she is the author of a number of textbooks and manuals, monographs, scientific papers, patents, copyright certificates, publications in serials included in the scientific base Scopus, Web of Science.
